“The world and everything in it is unplanned accident, existence is meaningless; the past is irrelevant; nothing matters.”
In my opinion, I thought that the statement "The world and everything in it is unplanned accident, existence is meaningless; the past is irrelevant; nothing matters" was disproved in the trial today. I think that position 2 won the trial today because position 1 couldn't ask better things to us and position 2 was able to attack the characters. This was because position 2 character described why we thought the world is planned, existence is meaningful, past is relevant, and nothing matters. I agreed with what Unferth had said in the trial. His main point of view was existence is meaningful. He said that because we enjoy the activities we engage in to be worthwhile, our lives are meaningful. I agree with this because we do things and dream for things because life has a meaning. We dream about becoming something because life has a meaning into it. Also, if life is meaningless, why do we even live our lives and survive? Psychologically, when a person feels danger of death, they want to avoid death and try to find a way to survive. This shows us that life is meaningful because we live for a purpose. Dying would not be different with living if life is meaningless. Also I agree with the point that Shaper made today. "He reshaped the world," I whispered, belligerent. "So this name implies. He stared strange-eyed at the mindless world and turns dry sticks to gold." (Grendel pg 49) This showed me how people can make meaning to its life. Life is not meaningless because people can make different meanings to life and the Shaper made meaning to life using the power of art and imagination. And the Danes believing this showed me how they know that life is meaningful and I agree with all of them because i think that life is meaningful because we have a purpose of living and also because we can make meaning to our lives. Making goals and dreams makes meanings to our lives. Because everything the Shaper and Wealtheow said was similar, that gave me trust that which made me agree with that the position 2 had won the trial. Because what the witnesses of position 2 all agreed on what they said, position 2 won.
